My adobe flash player is installed but not working

I have a Mac with OS X 10.7.4. I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Flash player several times. Each time I install it, it says the installation was successful. However, it does not work on any site we visit containing flash content. Any suggestions? Thanks!
